Running an Airbnb or any form of vacation rental is a great way to earn some extra income. But preparing your home for new guests can get stressful, especially if when you have guests checking in just hours after your previous guests have left.
When cleaning in between guests, there's 5 things to check for to help you provide a clean and enjoyable experience for your next guests:
1. Check inside kitchen appliances
Guests tend to leave their food and beverages in the fridge, so do a quick check to ensure no left over food is there. Check the dishwasher and empty any clean dishes (or wash by hand and put away any dirty dishes that were left behind). If you have a coffee maker, make sure the coffee grounds have been emptied and the coffee pot cleaned.
2. Check under the couch cushions The worst thing you want your new guests to discover is old popcorn or snacks in your couch cushions left by other people. Taking 5 minutes to check the cushions and doing a quick vacuum will be worth it.
3. Check dresser drawers
Make sure there aren't any clothing, essential or personal items left behind. You want your new guests to have a clean dresser, nightstand and closet to put their belongings away in. If you find any items left behind, consider having a lost and found box (located off the premise of your Airbnb). That way previous guests have the opportunity to reach out to you if they left something behind.
4. Bathroom essentials
Always make sure your shampoo, conditioner and soap is replenished. We recommend that you use larger bottles of soaps to top off your small bottles that your guests will use. That way your guests aren't using half used bottles.
Also check your toilet paper rolls, hand towels and bath towels, and feminine items (if you offer that).
5. Check trash cans
Make sure ALL trash cans in the house have been emptied. The worse thing you want to have happen is your new guests to arrive only to discover garbage left behind from previous guests.
And of course this goes without saying, but make sure every room receives a full cleaning that includes spot cleaning, dusting, scrubbing, sanitizing, vacuuming and mopping. You definitely want to make sure the bedding has been replaced with new bedding, and always keep extra blankets, sheets, pillow cases and towels on hand.
